Instruction in the World Language Department at Oxford Academy is
student-centered and task-based. The lessons revolve around and are planned based upon the functions students should be able to perform when they have learned the material presented in class. In short, the focus is on the
students and their increasing ability to communicate in the target language.
A variety of methods and activities are used in order to maximize the students'
learning and acquisition. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

Cooperative learning in small- and medium-sized groups;
Cloze (or "fill-in-the-blank") exercizes for listening practice
using authentic, comprehensible Latin American and Spanish music and
speech samples;
Vocabulary presented in a contextualized mini-drama for increased
comprehension, coupled with full scripts and color pictures in the text;
Country studies focused on geography, history, and culture of
Spanish-speaking countries to develop global knowledge;
Projects for visual learners and artistic students;
Manipulatives and movement for kinesthetic learners;
Inductive as well as deductive explanations of lessons;
Skits written, directed, and enacted by students, for practice with
vocabulary terms, cohesion and fluidity in context, and public speaking.
